A week or two ago, I came here looking for advice or help in locating my great-grandfather who is still a brick wall. Several of you were extremely helpful with new ideas of how to search for him. I thank you all and a lot of that helped. After /u/GenealogyDataNerd gave me some nudges in the DNA side of things, I decided to go back and go through the ENTIRE list to separate which side these relatives fell on, and if my maternal side - how. On that front, I am still no closer to Edward Price my gg. However, I noticed that in the "close relatives" area with my aunt, uncle and half-brother a new name had popped up. I was confused because - who is this person all of a sudden? I reached out and just simply asked - I wonder how we are related?
Turns out - about four years before my mom met my dad and they had me, she had a baby out of wedlock that she gave up for adoption. She and her legally married husband were separated and she was, I guess, seeing someone new. The circumstances of him not hanging around are unknown at this time. Basically my mother was living alone, the sole earner, with four young kids at home. For whatever reasons, she felt the best thing to do was to give this daughter up for adoption. I have a half-sister I never knew about! She's a lovely person and I am so glad we found each other. It's sad that my mom passed away in Feb 2019 and we could not ask her or that my new half-sister would not get to meet her. I immediately went to my brothers to ask if they had known - nope. I reached out to my aunt and uncle - any clue? None. My brother contacted our sister and she said she did know but mom asked her to keep it a secret so she did.
Amazing! She does not live far from me and I cannot wait to meet her. Selfishly, I would have loved to have had a sister closer to my age growing up. But glad we found each other now. :)
