I’ve hit a brick wall trying to figure out who my great grandfathers real dad was, I have been researching my family tree for awhile now, traced it back quite a bit, only to find out that my great grandfather took his step dads last name before he joined the military. From what I’m told in the family, he called to get his birth certificate from the court house in a small town in pushmataha county Oklahoma but the hall of records had burned down. I cannot find any records of the fire. My great grandfather had supposedly changed his birthdate quite a few times to be able to get certain privileges such as a drivers license and such. I only know for certain he was born sometime in the 30’s in pushmataha county Oklahoma, and his birth name was Harold Mitchell, changed to Harold Atteberry, but other than that I don’t know what’s true and what’s not and I’m finding little to none information.
