Hello all, first time posting so I hope I format this correctly. Also sorry for the wall of text..
Anyways, I have been doing my family tree for several years now and I would like to try to break my biggest brick wall.
My Maternal Grandfather (dun dun dun!!)
Okay so what I was told is that my grandmother was married to my grandfather, had my aunt and mom, then they divorced when mom was like two and he left. Mom told me that she had gotten a letter from her father once when she was a kid but that was pretty much it.
My grandmother was married a total of four times in her life and my grandfather was her "second husband".
I have not be able to find anything conclusive on this man in years. I'm to the point where I am pretty sure my grandmother lied on my mom's birth cert because from what I have and what I have found doesn't match up; and with little evidence connecting them together, I'm afraid of adding what I found to my tree and messing it up. The only info I have is off of my mom's birth cert, She passed away almost ten years ago, so I feel it is safe to post a Link.
The reason why I think the father's info is false, is because it asks how many children has the mother had, and how many are alive. My mom was my grandmother's third child, but her oldest child (a boy named Richard) died in a fire when he was about five years old. Yet for those answers, it is listed as two and two. Meaning she didn't report her son. Which I can understand since it was a painful part of her life but just makes me think what else did she lie on the cert. about.
Also it lists my grandmother's age as 32. If that's right, both parents were born in about 1916 -1917.
Nothing I have found on ancestry so far has matched the info I have for my Wilmer.
I also haven't found any marriage cert.between the parents but it states that my mom was legitimate on her birth cert. I actually haven't found any type of concrete paper trail for this guy.
I know we have a couple more years before the 1950 census, so maybe I just have to wait till then and see if he's living in the same house with my grandmother, aunt and mom. I'm also hoping to get a copy of my aunt's birth cert. to compare the father's info but with the pandemic going on, I won't be able to get that record for a few more months at least.
But any help would be greatly appreciated, my mom, aunt and grandmother are gone and no one else seems interested in finding this man.
