This is my first time posting in this subreddit, so I apologize if I've done anything wrong.

I'm here because I need help with finding any information on my great-great grandparents (and their parents). I've done my best with Ancestry and other online resources, but it has only gotten me this far. My great grandmother, Felicia Hennings Scholz, was born in Chile sometime around the beginning of the 20th century. As per Chilean customs, she was given two last names: that of her father (Hennings) and her mother's maiden name (Scholz).

The information that I have received about her parents (and their parents etc.) have all come from a distant cousin of mine who had apparently been told this by her father, who was a brother to my great grandmother. Since she's Chilean, she was told the names in Spanish and with the custom of two last names instead of just the one. This might make things easier however.

First, my great-great grandparents.

• Adolfo (Adolf) Hennings Steffen was according to the ship manifesto of the German liner Tanis 29 years old when he arrived in Corral, Chile from Hamburg, Germany in 1897 with his wife, his 1 month old son, a sibling of his and one of his wife as well as his wife's parents. He was born around 1868 and has always been referred to have lived in Hamburg. According to my cousin, he met his future wife when he moved to Valdivia, Chile in 1892 after first arriving in Punto Arenas. They met and fell in love, but she had to move back to Germany with her parents (no reason given by cousin). In the tradition of the best romance stories, he followed them back to Germany and they got married in Hamburg, ultimately returning to Valdivia for good. He stated that his profession was a Schiffszimmermann in 1897 and my cousin tells me that he set up a shipyard in Valdivia where he built boats, Faluchos and tugboats. He also appeared to have had a second business involving the manufacturing of medicine/pharmaceuticals. My own speculation is that he might have been a sailor earlier in life or had worked on boats in some capacity. I have an unconfirmed match of an Adolf Hennings arriving in New York City in 1887 on the German ship Lessing. The Adolf Hennings on that manifesto is 18 years old, making him one year younger than my great-grandfather. It is worth to consider, however.

• Maria Scholz Meyer was born around 1878 in Valdivia, Chile. She might be the first of my German side of the family born in Chile. See the section of Adolfo for more information about the circumstances in which they met.

Unfortunately from here on out, the information I have is very limited and entirely based on what my cousin has told me. She unfortunately knows very little of German customs (or of Germany in general) which does make the information given to me rather unspecific.

• Georg Theodor Hennings Hahn was the father of Adolf. Georg was born in Bockenem, Germany in 1835. The mother of Adolf was Charlotte Elizabeth Adolfhine Steffens who was born in 1842. No location provided. Her parents in turn were Heinrich Steffens (born 1814 in Obendorf) and Johanna Catherine Kaufman (born 1818 in Hamburg). I was given no information about Georg's parents.

• Maria's parents were Ernst Daniel Scholz Selzer (born 1845 in Losen, Silesia. According to the Tanis manifest, he was 52 years old in 1897. He also said he was a Schiffszimmermann) and Maria Scholz (born around 1841. The Tanis manifest puts her as being older than Ernst, at 56 years old). Ernst's parents were were Daniel Scholz and Susana (probably Susanne or Susann) Selzer. No further information was given. I was given no information about Maria's parents.
