I understand as an Aus that a majority of reddit is American, but is this just a politics subreddit for genz? I thought you’d at least get slightly more thought out responses in the actual politics subreddits?
And what exactly are we? If you hate ~50% of the country that sounds like a you problem...
I've spent half my life living in rural deep red states, and the other half in NYC. I have friends and family on all parts of the political compass. If I've learned anything from all this it's that people hate what they can't understand.
I would dare to suggest that the reason you hate half the country, is because you don't understand them.
I see it like this. I grew up as a Christian fundamentalist. I began to question my faith in my 20s and I decided that if what I believed was true, then there shouldn't be any problems if I ask hard questions.... 3 years later I was an atheist...
If you are confident in your beliefs, it shouldn't be a problem to get to know people on the other side. Even if you approach it as "getting to know your enemy". You are still building a bridge with a fellow citizen. You can't predict the future. You don't know how your interests will align in the future.

Which is why it's hilarious when the democrats take it so seriously... Most of the Trump supporters I know are just in it for the lulz...
