Age 5 is the usual age in which human memory goes from being choppy and episodic to constant and continuous encoding. It's also an age in which language ability rises, which is a precondition for forming long term memories. Likewise, 2020 born kids will be entering kindergarten next year in 2025, which in itself is a huge milestone.
What does this mean? Well, what we considered as being yesterday (2020) is the start of an entire new life for millions and millions of people around the globe. These are kids who, unlike us, have zero memories of a massive event, COVID, which to us feels like a fever dream from yesterday.
While this all seems obvious and inevitable, it is ultimately poetic and beautiful to see the circle of life continue to rebirth, as it has for thousands of years.
It was a terrible year when I had to give birth alone because my husband was on a business trip in Asia and they had a strict lockdown policy there so he couldn't come home when I gave birth.
