First, let me say I don't care for the word 'woke'. To me it essentially means being empathetic of anyone else. Race, sexuality, nationality, ability, whatever. The far right has turned it into a slur.
It seems to me the younger generations don't seem to understand that we raised them.
Sure, some generations do the opposite of their parents, such as the mighty Gen X has. And there is a faction of Gen X that turned into boomers. But I think the majority Gen X used our blaise, cynical attitudes to impart to the next generation that race, sexuality, nationality, or economic situation aren't anything to discriminate against. We never really cared.
They definitely have taken the ball and run with it. I have three kids who are immensely more progressive and empathetic than I ever was at their ages. Their sarcasm is par exellance. And, honestly, it makes me immensely proud.
These next generations are going to change the world. I'd like to think Gen X had more than a little to do with that.
