Received a 1099 misc for the Gemini earn program, got about $3k for the year. The issue I'm having on my tax return is that income received and reported on form 1099 misc is subject tp self employment tax. I see this more as interest which would normally be reported on form 1099 int which would NOT be subject to self employment tax. Unfortunately the exchanges arw reporting it on form 1099 misc instead of 1099 INT.
Do not bother replying unless you are certain on the best way to report this income on a US tax return.
What is the best way to report this income, since I guess I have to even though I didn't sell anything, on a US tax return without also getting dinged for self employment tax?
Edit: see comment and link below. Answered my own question by doing more research. Form 1099 misc, box is NOT subject to SE tax.
