Tl;dr: GFN rocks and if you don't need high-end or specialized PC hardware/software you can probably live off your phone exclusively from now on. If you haven't already you should immediately start building your library for free with weekly epic/amazon game giveaways (reddit.com/r/freegamefindings).
I first heard about geforcenow a couple years ago but for the longest time I didn't pay enough attention to it to know what it was. Maybe 9 months ago I was using an old, falling apart gaming laptop that had 8gb ram/i5/gtx 1050 and no screen. Eventually the hdd finally shit the bed and I switched to gaming on my xbox seldomly. Eventually that hdd drive died too and I was left with just a very dated garbage phone and a projector that ran android. I tried low level emulation but that git boring quick, which led me to giving GFN a try when I read you could link your epic games account - until then i thought gfb had their own private store you had to buy from to play games. My old phone and projector were both too impotent for GFN which prompted me to search for a company with the best free gov phone giveaways (airtalkwireless fwiw, tho their customer service literally does not exist and i think they have worse freebies now)
Once i got my s9 i fiddled with GFN for a bit but the only game i had at that time worthwhile was Neon Abyss, and it the queue times werent really worth it for gow much I liked the game. I mostly stuck to to playing Titans Quest natively. However, I found that I really appreciated samsung dex mode and decided that I would like to switch fully to my phone for all my computer needs from then on. I'm currently planning to save up for a used z fold (or similar) for the larger screen mostly for writing and shooting/editing/publishing documentaries on, if it works well as a screen for KnM gaming i can loose the portable too...
Nowadays I use it for 100% of my gaming. GFN has allowed me to switch to using my phone exclusively for all computing matters. Ive got an old galaxy s9 i got for free as a gov phone w free service that i play with a razer kishi i got open box for under $25. Ive got a 4k portable screen that was $100 and a usb/hdmi hub that i hook everything up to with a mouse and keyboard ($12 for the combo, with a mousepad) if im playing certain games. Basically im into everything for under $150 for a functional laptop and gamepad option. Could do with just the controller tho, thats how i prefer lately playing bg3.
My library has 120 titles, all but 2 were free through epic games, prime gaming (i also dont pay for Amazon), or other giveaways. I bought bg3 and diablo 4 both on sale, so like another $100 there. But my library is big enough that ill only ever buy "must haves" (the last thing i bought was kakarot like 2 years ago, also on sale) that work on GFN from now on (or luna, if for some reason that was the only option)
I use GFN free, exclusively. Ive never tried any higher tier, although im considering buying a month cuz of the load times and queue time for bg3 slowing me down when i wana dump hours in a sitting. Before bg3 i didnt care about the wait times at all, id just watch videos or browse reddit while i waited. But the game is soooo good i dont wana pause lol. Besides that i have zero complaints, the 720p graphics limit is more than sufficient on a phone screen, tho it isnt great on my 16in portable screen.
Between GFN free, epic/free game giveaways, and a free galaxy s9 from a government program ive managed to set up a totally free, portable, gaming experience so high tier I wont ever buy a pc, console, or game again unless i need them for special reasons or this shuts down for some reason.
I will say this, i do eventually wanna drop $100 or so on a used quest 2 primarily for 3d movies, but perhaps also graphic design and other vr specific things. Of course, ill do my non vr gaming through gfn if i wana game on a "big screen"
It truly is a golden age of poverty gaming. Free AAA games playable on dumpster tier tech...if nvidia ever pulls the trigger and decides to go full desktop emulation like shadowpc or others i think itll kick off in earnest an era of common people transitioning to decentralized processing power. Im curious if they don't because they think somebody like Microsoft would swoop in and steal all the market share as soon as a smaller player popularizes it.
