You're an older (50 ) professor who just moved into campus. You have a house you bought in the town 30 min away but they arent moving out till fall. So you decide to sublet an apartment next to mine. Its cheap and only for the summer.

The four story apartment building had no elevator, only those concrete stairs. Whats worse, the two apartments on each floor share a common front balcony. This is one of those generic campus apartments where eight friends are supposed to split the adjoining 2BR apartments and then just make a mess of it and host parties on their balcony until their lease ends.

This detail comes into play when early in june, just after everyone has moved out, you move in. I also sublet the one next door. Hardly anyone else lives in the building during the summer.
