So, I had my gastric emptying study Monday/Tueaday. Today the gastroenterologist got back to me and confirmed I have gastroparesis. I'm happy I now have an answer to my symptoms as I've been nauseous 24/7 and throwing up daily since July. But I also have a major problem.
I have to change my whole diet. The smaller more frequent meals AND avoid foods that made up 90% of my diet. The reason this is a problem is I have anorexia. My psychiatrist already wants me to go into treatment for it (but my insurance doesn't cover the program I qualify for). And this is extremely triggering for that. Having to limit how much I eat in one sitting AND restrict what I'm allowed to eat? This could literally make it to where I just don't eat anything and that wouldn't be good at all. I mean like, going over the list of foods to avoid, almost all foods I deemed "safe" to eat, I have to avoid.
So now I'm terrified. I need to make these changes because this nausea/vomiting thing isn't working out for me. But I also don't want my eating disorder to spiral to wear I get down to way underweight.
I'm hoping someone here has some advice or maybe went through the same thing? I am going to be talking about it to my psychiatrist (I have an appointment with her today) but I'm hoping for some advice from people who have gastroparesis.
Thank you!
