Why would a gastroenterologist choose to prescribe a nystatin suppository for a patient?
Post Body

Late last night, I went down a rabbit hole on Google and I stumbled across this pdf through Google. Looks like a prescription form for compounding pharmacies to be filled out by a GI doc.

"Nystatin 100,000 units/suppository" (on the left side of the sheet).

I'm very curious as to why a gastroenterologist would actually prescribe a nystatin suppository. I've heard of nystatin oral tablets and even nystatin vaginal suppositories... But rectal suppositories? What symptoms would they be treating with nystatin suppositories?
