Can we take NSAIDs if taken on full stomach?

Can we take NSAIDs, like ibuprofen, if we take it on a full stomach to protect the gut? Tylenol just doesn't cut it for me for pain, but ibuprofen always worked when I used to take it pre-gastritis.
I'm positive my gastritis was caused by my daily use of ibuprofen in the first place, so I dunno if that changes anything. There is also a good chance I have an ulcer, since my stomach pain is always in the same area.
Have any of you with gastritis used NSAIDs and still been ok?
