A little background.. 26F officially diagnosed with chronic gastritis & GERD 2 years ago.
Had a repeat endoscopy a few weeks ago & awaiting results.
Can’t seem to find the cause of the gastritis since I always tested negative for h.pylori. I’ve never had alcohol before & never abused NSAIDs.
Doesn’t seem like PPIs do much to help with my symptoms of GERD or Gastritis.
I went to urgent care a couple of weeks ago because I was having pain near my gallbladder & it would radiate towards my back. It’s been off & on ever since. This all started after the endoscopy. I was also prescribed Eseomeprazole after endoscopy .. so not sure which one is the culprit. (The procedure or the meds). Urgent care sent me for an ultrasound & said they didn’t see any gallstones or wall thickening. Also didn’t see any kidney stones. It was resulted as unremarkable.
Within the last 3 years , I’ve had over 10 CT Scans for other parts of my body, including the abdomen. Overtime, I’ve had to become my own advocate to push for other methods because insurance doesn’t always want to pay for MRIs since CTs are cheaper. Doctors always tell me this which is why they automatically opt for a CT scan , but they’re not the ones undergoing all of the radiation, the patients are.
So.. Are there any alternatives to a HIDA Scan? I’d like to find out if my gallbladder has been causing these issues the last few years because I can’t seem to find any answers. Even primary care just wants to continue keeping me on PPIs without further investigation. I live in CA & most GI doctors here are money hungry & only doing phone calls.. won’t see patients in person unless they’re there for an endoscopy or colonoscopy procedure. I’m currently having to wait to get my results over the PHONE for an endoscopy that I did a month ago! So I will most likely have to fight to get my own physical copy of the results. Which is technically mine.
Sorry, I had to vent there for a second. But if anyone could give some advice on if they think a HIDA Scan would be worth it (since radiation is used) or if they know of alternatives to that, I’d so greatly appreciate it you guys. What did some of you end up doing?
