Last November, Bernie Sanders Gave a speech At Georgetown Univ. on Democratic Socialism -- Should Gary Do a Similar Speech on Libertarianism?
Post Body

Lately, I have had to bat down endless misconceptions about Libertarians, specifically what the presidency of Gary Johnson is about. Though many are trolls, I've had a few "isn't he an anarchist!?" comments that are pretty frustrating to deal with.

As I recall, Bernie Sanders had a similar problem in the earlier stages of his campaign. Pundits frequently took the opportunity to speak on his behalf on what "democratic socialism" meant, without really listening to Sanders' policies. Eventually, Sanders gave this speech in an attempt to retake the narrative surrounding his campaign.

As Gary Johnson gets more air time, a similar problem seems to be emerging. People simply don't seem to understand what the Libertarian platform would actually look like in practice. Isn't it time for Gary to tackle these misconceptions head on and give a more formal address to voters?

So far, Johnson has done an excellent job of introducing himself as a relatable voice in politics -- he's echoed a lot of the voters on the ever-sinking depths of public discourse ("Isn't this the craziest election?"), and really, just the lack of imagination in the major two parties right now.

IMO Gary could run with the attention, and do a lot more to clarify his positions and the case for liberty. At the very least, he could circumvent some of the scare tactics that will inevitably surface if he keeps climbing in the polls.

So, wouldn't now be an excellent opportunity for Johnson to fully elaborate on the ideas behind his campaign? How he applied them as governor? To give a full speech on Libertarianism in 2016?

The Libertarian Party has a lot of baggage, but it also has some remarkable ideas. With the level of voter disaffection right now, I feel people are more than willing to give alternative, liberty-focused thinking a shot -- perhaps if only to better rationalize avoiding a vote for 'Clintrump.

Is there a particular University that would jump at this?
