Cadence Sensor for Indoor Bike Workout

I currently own a basic spin bike (Joroto X2) with no fancy electronics and a 6x. I was actually thinking if it is possible to have the cadence sensor measure the average cadence per time interval (eg minutes) with the indoor bike workout? The flywheel has no mechanism to put a speed sensor so I was thinking if this would work so I can get the equivalent steps for that workout?
