I've had a busy year getting some of the nuts and bolts of the garden in, and thought I'd share. I started with a large lawn and no plants except three fruit trees, and a knackered shed I had to demolish. I've put in a mixed hedge around the boundary, new shed, small patio and arbour, no dig bed with a little retaining wall, and some raised beds slightly hidden with a lattice screen.
I'm experimenting with some forest garden principles in the herbaceous border along with some traditional annual veg raised beds.
One major regret is not putting enough cardboard down for the no dig bed. I've had to remove enterprising grass poking through every few days. It seems to be slowly giving up. Lesson learned!
Next projects - stepping stone path, wildlife pond in the u-shaped bit in the middle front of the bed, plant out the rest of the bed (currently lots filled with ground cover mustard).
