Ideas for north facing shade area
Post Body

Looking for inspiration and ideas for a common issue!

I've got an area near to my house that is heavily shaded, it all gets some direct sun around midsummer by by August the area closest to the left French door is almost entirely in shade and the lawn only gets some morning and evening sun.

I am thinking of creating a seating area around the edge of the shade in the photo above, bounded by the red box, and then rather than expanding a large patio all the way out to it with dead space near the house I thought I'd divide it off from the house with a bed and/or trellis to make a defined and semi enclosed space

But that leaves the question of what to do with the intervening space - green squiggles. My current thinking is to fill it with plants like ferns if I can lift some of the concrete slab with a path through to the seating area and the rest of the garden.

But I'm interested in any other ideas, and pictures where you think people have done this really well.
