Happy New Year, G4G!
2014 was a fantastic year not only for gaming, but for our subreddit as well! We nearly doubled our subscriber count, we were trending for a while, and we were even a Subreddit of the Day! However, size isn’t the only way we like to measure /r/Gaming4Gamers. No matter how large we get, we have been and still are determined to maintain a high quality throughout the subreddit. So far we've been fairly successful, and it’s all thanks to you guys!
2015 is going to be an even better year. We've already made loads of changes in just the first few hours of this new year, but there are even more in store. Without further ado, here is a list of (almost) all of the updates you may or may not have notice around the sub:
Style Changes:
Firstly, we'd like to congratulation /u/ScorchRSH, the winner of the Header Design Contest! We had a great voting turnout, and it was an extremely close race, but you guys decided that /u/ScorchRSH’s work was the most suitable for the subreddit. Congrats!
In addition to changing the header and header size, you may have also noticed that both the logo and the tab menu have also been updated to give the subreddit a cleaner feel.
Subreddit of the Month:
Now we’d like to congratulate /r/JRPG for being our official Subreddit of the Month for January 2015! Everyone on that sub is extremely friendly and passionate about video games, so be sure to check out their page and subscribe if you’re interested!
You may have also noticed that the style of the Subreddit of the Month banner itself has changed, as well as the trophy card that we will be awarding the winners.
User Flair:
We’ve decided that the old 16x16px flairs were simply too hard to see, so we’ve upped them to 20x20px!
In addition, the black background seemed unnecessary, so all user flair will now have a transparent background.
Although we attempted transferring all of the old ones to the new format, we ultimately realized it was a futile task, so we’ll have to start from scratch. We currently have 24 to start with, but you can now send us your requests with the “Suggest User Flair” option in the sidebar under “Useful Links”.
Rule Revisions:
To make the subreddit’s rules a little simpler and quicker to learn, we’ve condensed them into fewer and more concise ones in the sidebar.
However, we also wanted to give more-in-depth explanations of each one, so we’ve added extended versions of the rules in the wiki. To read them, simply click on the link underneath the rules in the sidebar.
One of the more important rule changes we've made is that brackets are no longer mandatory! Seriously, look at the title of this post! We’ve heard your complaints, and have decided that the bracket system was more cumbersome than helpful, so we’re no longer requiring that you bracket a keyword in your title. However, we still ask that if your posts is about a specific game that you included that game’s title somewhere in the post title (it doesn’t have to be in brackets though).
