The only mode shown was the Toad Mode (not sure if that's the actual name). Everyone starts off as Toad, but you can find characters and become them by landing on their space. It's a free moving board, and everyone moves at the same time. The only way to get stars in this mode is to take down a boss, which there are 5 of. The only way to play minigames in this mode is to either use an item or fight a boss.
A new wave of Amiibo will also come out for this game.
