The "diversity" argument

One argument I've seen gators use a lot recently is:

"Look at the GDC's audience/Kotaku's staff/Polygon's staff/<insert indie gaming event X here>'s audience! It's all white people and mostly male!"

I don't see what point they're trying to make with this, given these are the same people who throw a huge fit when Leigh Alexander says she won't be accepting the work of cis white men for Offworld unless it's volunteer work.

Also, aren't they the ones who say people who complain about diversity in the games industry are just whining?
