7 years ago, Reddit user tristantaylorsvoice (TTV) wrote a Thread saying that he and his friend theorized that Zinnia’s dear friend and Draconid Lorekeeper-predecessor Aster is the Lumiose Ghost Girl (LGG). Sadly, it didn’t catch much traction, but if it did, with further analysis, most fans would’ve agreed that the LGG is Aster. His theory is the solid foundation of this one and credits to him and his friend for thinking of this. Below, you will find many elements of what he said, as well as my angle on it:
Argument:
Again, the LGG is Aster, but I believe she was intended to be an event character tied into the Eternal Flower Florette, which likely was suppose to occur in the hypothetical “Pokemon Z”, or through an event.
Before the points, here’s a reminder of the only actual fact about the LGG, which most of you know:
- The LGG was a character with the sprite of a Hex Maniac who appeared on the 2nd Floor of a Lumiose City office building who said the following: “No, you're not the one..." Her body appears to be floating and she disappears.
And lastly, the following is the strongest coincidence found in ORAS, again, which most of you know:
- Another Hex Maniac appears in Mt. Pyre who says: "... No, you're not the one. ... Ah..."
- However, this character stays in the same spot and is able to be talked to multiple times.
As a result, due to having the same sprite and saying basically the same thing, it’s possible that she’s the LGG.
Without further ado, here are 10 points - some of which you already know (3 is where the juice begins):
- Two Hex Maniacs say the same thing in two different regions: Kalos and Hoenn.
- Both of these Hex Maniacs are waiting for someone.
- Zinnia stated she lost her friend Aster and wants to find her again:
- "... I used to watch the stars like this all the time... Together with Aster. We were always together. In good times and in bad. I loved her. I loved her with everything I had... But I still lost her."
- "... Hahaha... ... I want to see her... I want to be with her again... My sweet Aster..."
- "I will, won't I? With this... Just a little longer..."
- One of the last things Zinnia said to the player in her letter is that she is looking for something:
- "“I was finally able to bring everything to an end. I thank you for that. I think I'll spend some time now trying to find out if it's also possible to forge a new beginning for something once lost. Until we meet again, Zinnia”"
- Zinnia stated she lost her friend Aster and wants to find her again:
- The 1st initials of Aster and Zinnia = AZ.
- AZ was looking for Florette. Zinnia is looking for Aster.
- Asters & Zinnias are both flowers.
- The most common meaning of Zinnia is “Thoughts of friends or thoughts of a missing friend.” https://www.flowermeaning.com/zinnia-flower-meaning/
- Some Common meanings of Asters are
- Patience (like LGG waiting for “the one”… Interestingly, TTV theorized that Aster waiting until she died for Zinnia).
- Love of Variety (The Florges family have a variety of colors)
- “Afterthought or the wishing things happened differently” (the event would alter her death.)
- The ancient Greeks burned aster leaves to ward off both snakes and evil spirits. https://www.flowermeaning.com/aster-flower-meaning/
- Again, The LGG is waiting in Mt. Pyre. Pyre is a combustible heap for burning a dead body as a funeral rite https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pyre
- Interestingly, in the ORAS Pokémon Manga, it’s implied that Aster died in the Embelled Tower and was burned alive. https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Aster
- Manga Zinnia’s burnt tan coat is a memento of Aster.
- Myth regarding Asters: According to Greek mythology, when the god Jupiter decided to flood the earth to destroy the warring men, the goddess Astraea was so upset she asked to be turned into a star. Her wish was granted, but when the flood waters receded she wept for the loss of lives. As her tears turned to stardust and fell to earth, the beautiful aster flower sprung forth.
- Although it wasn’t stardust, at the end of the Delta Episode, which was an averted Calamity, was a beautiful meteor shower (interesting note: the meteor shower was called the Litleonids, which come from a constellation that looks like a Litleo, and, according to the Hoenn News Network occurs once every thousand years. Litleo is the preevolved form of Pyroar, which is owned by Lysandre, who is AZ’s relative… and AZ was in Hoenn a thousand years prior to the Delta Episode.)
- Zinnia’s Japanese name is Higana which means “From 彼岸花 higanbana (red spider lily; literally means "flower on the other shore"), a plant commonly associated to death and the afterlife.”
- Aster’s Japanese name is Shigana which means From 此岸 shigan (mortal world; literally means this shore).
- The Flower of a Florette looks like a mix of Asters and Red Spider Lilies.
- The Japanese root word for Zinnia and Aster’s Japanese names, Higan (彼岸) , it is a Buddhist holiday, also celebrated in Japan, where red spider lily are to celebrate the arrival of fall with a ceremony at the tomb of one of their *ancestors.
- The etymology of Ohigan is from "the other shore[3] of the Sanzu River", which separates this life from the afterlife in Japanese Buddhist tradition.
- As you all know, in Lumiose City’s train station, there’s a hidden message that states: "I’m going to go for help, meet me in the usual place.
- For Higan, Japanese citizens will often return to their hometowns during the holiday season to pay respects to their ancestors. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higan
- Not saying Zinnia is from Kalos,. However, 3/5 of the Dragons she uses in the final battler are from Kalos (Goodra, Noivern & Tyrantrum), non of whom are obtainable in Hoenn, so it’s arguable that she’s gone there before.
- Another Greek legend surrounding the Aster flower claims that when King Aegeus’ son Theseus volunteered to slay the Minotaur, he told his father he would fly a white flag on his return to Athens to announce his victory. But, Theseus forgot to change the flags and sailed into port with black flags flying. Believing his son to be killed by the Minotaur, King Aegeus promptly committed suicide. It is believed that asters sprung forth where his blood stained the earth.
- Like TTV said, the LGG likely died waiting for “the one” to come back.
- In X & Y, the LGG is dead. In ORAS, she appears to be alive.
- X & Y’s mascot Pokémon, as well as one of the themes in X & Y, deal with Life and Death.
- Again, the LGG is waiting in Mt. Pyre, which is linked to The Cave of Origin.
- Outside of the Cave of Origin is The Tree that AZ planted the Eternal Flower. Again, AZ appeared in Hoenn in the past and Kalos in the present.
- Both Zinnia and EF Florette were both against the use of Infinite Energy (https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Ultimate_weapon ) ( https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Infinity_Energy ) as a solution for significant problems, and care about the lives of others.
- “So this is what has come of human technology and of hope and blood and sweat and tears and... Well, the list gets kinda long and boring. But it contains everything, huh? I know all about it. About just what kinda energy you're using to fuel this rocket thing... The abominable technology humanity first thought up 3,000 years ago... So you're once again planning to claim that this is best for humanity, or best for the whole darn world... It's a snap of your fingers to repeat the sins of the past. Worse, if what I overheard is true... This time, you're about to commit an error more abominable than before!"
- "Look, I'm not here to criticize the way you guys are looking at this. But I want to be sure you've thought this through well and good. You know, there are necessary sacrifices, and there are unnecessary sacrifices. What a disappointment! This is the best you could do with all your knowledge and technology? Instead of trying to make something outta nothing, you'd rather repeat the mistakes of the past, straight up? No, you're gonna add new mistakes on top—that really takes the cake. You guys need some imagination."
- "Thank you, dear. Now then... That is an impressive machine. Snap your fingers, the asteroid vanishes, and we all live happily ever after? Ahahahah! Indeed! It's like that former Champ said! This thing is the best hope we have of saving this planet and everything on it. But you know... It could also be the worst tragedy imaginable for some other world and everything on it."…
- "My people know it. From generation to generation, we pass along the lore about the distortions in the world borne by the Mega Evolution mechanism. And about the existence of another world, which we have long observed to be just like this one and yet not the same... That's right. A Hoenn region that's almost exactly like this one we live in. Filled with Pokémon and people like us. A world where maybe the evolution of Pokémon took a slightly different path, where Mega Evolution is unknown... A world where that war 3,000 years ago...never happened. A world where the ultimate weapon was never even built. And in that Hoenn of that world... What would happen if one day, out of the blue, a meteoroid appeared? What would happen to the people of that world, without the technology to destroy the meteoroid or the power to warp it away? ... Looks like it's beyond the power of your imagination.
- Apparently, according to an interview with Shigeru Ohmori in the June 2015 issue of Nintendo Dream, Aster was a person with special powers who held the position of Lorekeeper before Zinnia[1], much like Aster in Pokémon Adventures.
- The following is a bit of a reach but is still interesting:
- In the Parfum Palace in X & Y, after you beat the E4, when you look at one of the pictures, the player will say it reminds him of AZ.
- After you get Hoopa, a backpacker will appear on the second floor and tell you 3 things about Hoopa’s powers. The 2nd and 3rd ones talk about Hoopa’s relationship with deserts, and even how he transported an organization to a desert. https://youtu.be/kxirER8TgQM (7:16)
- In ORAS, in your quest to use both bikes, a Hex Maniac is in the desert portion of route 111, and she said she has “strange powers.” I’m not saying this is the LGG, but I’m saying that it’s possible that a Hex Maniac, which is the same sprite as the LGG, has strange powers, which could hint that the LGG has some as well.
- Lastly, Hoopa’s rings appear in ORAS. Thoughts?
