Did a quick scan of previous DDLC discussions and I haven't seen mention of this particular bit yet so I'm going to throw this out here: yes, there's plenty of discussion on what Project Libitina/Test VM could mean, but I think one thing we did get clarification on was MatPat's theory from a few years ago: primarily that the dokis were actually from another game. Turns out, he was *sort of* right: I don't think the dokis themselves were from another game, but they were definitely getting hit by *data* from another VM. From the email "Issues caused by unprotected memory":
"Has anyone evaluated the side effects that might be caused by sharing a memory pool between multiple VMs, rather then allocating them separately? I'm looking at some of the files VM1 is generating, and I'm finding some information that *definitely* shouldn't be there. I haven't seen any evidence that this is actually affecting the inside of the VM itself, so I don't think this is a priority, but it's definitely worth noting.
My best guess is that memory being freed from VM2 isn't getting zeroed out, which technically gives VM1 access to it. All the info I have will go into the issue tracker, but I wanted to check if anyone else already noticed something along these lines."
If I'm reading this right, this basically means that data from the VM2 simulation/universe (Project Libitina) could end up in VM1 (DDLC). This could easily explain most, if not all, of the appearances of the Markov/Libitina/Third-Eye material in VM1: notably in the Side Stories that take place in a Control Simulation separate from VM1, Yuri doesn't even mention horror, she's interested in fantasy books. Having it become more prevalent in Act 2 could be a side effect of Monika's meddling: her code changes could result in unexpected memory blocks being accessed more frequently. Yuri's history and preferences could've easily adjusted to match this new data introduced to the system, giving the impression that there was more to her, but really it was just specific data chunks coming in from VM2.
It could also be possible that versions of the four characters also exist in VM2? But it isn't necessary to explain the hidden material at this point. Also, if the final letter mentioning "Monitor Adjacent Runtime-Level Access" (as opposed to "MONItor Kenel Access") is any clue, we may be wanting to look for someone named Marla instead of Monika, heh.
So yeah, MatPat was on the right track, he just didn't have the whole story. Of course it didn't make sense that Visual Novel characters would have this many parameters, but it wasn't quite that characters from a different game were crammed into a Visual Novel, it was that the entire VM was distilled down into a "VN-like" experience by MES. Meanwhile, the horror aspects *were* from a different game, it's just not necessary for them to have come along with the characters themselves. All in all, not a bad theory in retrospect now that we see the bigger picture.
