Hello everyone. When FanDuel and all the other sports books opened up in Massachusetts I was a reasonable gambler, spending 25-50 a week, doing small parlays. I was having fun and I’d hit a few here and there which felt great to be honest. It seemed like easy money but then a blowout would happen or someone would get injured and I started losing more than I was winning. I stepped back for a little while but then I got wrapped up in Keno, picking numbers for money. I talked to my dr about impulse control meds and I ended up getting put on Abilify (Aripiprazole) and boy did that make things worse. I didn’t realize it until my Aunt was talking to me the other day. She used to be heavy into gambling as well and guess what medication she was on? Abilify! What is up with this drug? I started placing larger bets on FanDuel, betting more on Keno, just wasting my money while my brain yells at me to place the bets. I just blew through all my money on Christmas. I fucked up once again because my mind was out of control. I stopped taking the Abilify and man the urges have definitely chilled out. If you’re a gambler and on Abilify please talk to your doctor about finding a new med. I don’t know if you need to ween off of it but my other meds keep me in a good place. No more Abilify! If you’re struggling and thinking you can’t pick yourself back up please remember there is always room to grow and improve. The best thing to do is just leave the gambling in the past. Stop chasing your losses, accept them and move on. We will all be better soon.
