Touchpad keeps going dead, requiring restart

I am using an external keyboard w/Trackpoint at times, although I've restarted, had issues without ever reconnecting the ext. kb. This just seems to happen after the system has been up and running for awhile, maybe 20 minutes to a couple hours. Note that the built-in kb keys work fine, it's just the touchpad. Thanks.
