I am looking into options of purchasing a Galaxy Tab S9 or Galaxy Book 3 or 4 360 2-in-1. Looking to purchase the tab to have something compact to carry for travel to watch movies, etc.
I am so use to using a laptop for editing docs, saving files, creating folders, etc. using MS Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat. I feel I should not do away without one.
If I puchase the tab
• Will I have the same functionality as using a laptop? • Creating folders and saving files? • Multi-screen use? • Can MS Office and Adobe be installed? • Is it difficult to edit PDF, Word, and Excel docs? • Can a docking station be plugged in for use of saving docs to a flashdrive, using monitor as second screen, etc?
When is usually a good time to purchase, tab or Galaxy Book for decent price? Is there any big differences between the tab 8 or 9?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions given.
I had the S8 before trading in for my S9 Ultra. It's a solid tablet, can't tell much of a different in performance. Has all the same features. The ultras are BIG, almost too big to be handheld to be honest, but mine stays stationary and is used as a 2nd monitor 70% of the time. Battery life is fine, with light use you can get a few days, and moderate use should last you all day.
Yeah the 128GB is gonna be tough unless you don't plan on doing THAT much. You can expand the storage with an SD card but you can't move apps to it unfortunately.
Also keep an eye on the RAM. I'm pretty sure the 128GB S8 ultra has 8GB, and the 256GB S8 Ultra has 12GB.
Alright, so as a seasoned Samsung tab user, heres my two cents:
The tab has a pretty good file system, defenitely rivals windows. The big difference is that everything you saves goes to either the downloads folder, or a app designated folder, whereas on windows you choose where things go before they are downloaded. The good news is, you can move files around just as easily as on windows, and you can even add folders or files to the "desktop" (homescreen) for easy access. It may take a little getting used to, but you wont be hindered in your abilities at all.
Multi screen use: if you use DEX (you will need an S series tablet), you can have kinda a half ass extended display. You can move the mouse between the monitor and the tablet, but you cannot drag files folders apps or any window between the two. Its not that big of a deal, if you have say reddit open on the monitor, and want to move it to the tablet screen, just re open it on the tablet screen and it will be right where you left off. You just cant drag it. Also you are limited to one monitor, so the bigger the tablet you get, the better it will be, because your only 2nd monitor option is going to be the screen on your tablet.
Microsoft office and adobe can be installed and used normally. Adobe kinda sucks on android, i recommend an app called Xodo, you can open and edit PDFs much easier and better than even adobe on windows. In fact, I use it on windows too.
Any USB-C flash drive, hard drive, or docking station can be used. I recommend a multi USB HDMI charging passthrough dongle, Pretty much necessary if you want the tablet to be used in desktop mode for an extended period of time, otherwise your looking at a USB-C to HDMI cable which will not charge the laptop and doesnt have any USB ports.
As far as when to buy, whenever really. They have good deals for refurbished ones on amazon, and its pretty cool because you can buy a refurbished Tab S8 on amazon for $500, then trade it in to samsung for a newer one for $700 off.
If your looking for a laptop replacement, I cant recommend the Tab S8 Ultra or the Tab S9 Ultra enough. I know its pricey but its gonna be what you need to feel like youve replaced a laptop, especially screen size.
If you have any more questions, just ask.

Hey good luck! idk if you NEED the ipad for work, but I currently use both a galaxy tab and an ipad for my job and the ipad is the worst part about my job. If you can, try switching to the galaxy tab completely. Best of luck!
