Whats the point of DEX?
Post Body

I've always had phones that have the dex feature and now that I've used my tab s9u for a couple of months, I'm wondering what the point of dex is. Everything dex does I can do in tablet mode. It doest change anything besides that I now have a Taskbar at the bottom like every other desktop OS...... can someone explain to me why so many people love it?

I have a Tab S9 Ultra and I use DEX exclusively for work. I have it connected to a monitor, and use the TAB as a second screen. Can you do everything on DEX also in tablet mode? Sure. But for a work environment its easier to deal with multiple windows and type things with a mouse and keyboard, plus I can sit across the desk from my computer instead of having to have it in my lap or on a table right in front of me. I honestly havent found much you cant do VS a windows environment.

The point is to leave the monitor and keyboard where you do work, and take the phone / tablet with you for on the go. You always have your work with you.

Yeah I agree. I also have some minor gripes. I do wish there was a full windows extension instead of running dex on the monitor and OneUI on the tablet, but at least you can move the mouse between the two. I haven't had any complaints with any of the Microsoft office apps, everything I've personally needed to do on word of excel has worked flawlessly for me for the past couple of years. They've put effort into it because about five / six years ago it was barely usable. It's kinda annoying that alot of apps don't have native keyboard and mouse support, or the on screen keyboard pops up until you start typing. Using the scroll wheel on Google maps doesn't do anything, you have to pinch with your fingers to zoom. The mouse polling rate is pretty bad, especially on external monitors, it feels like it's 30 fps. Support for high refresh rate displays would be welcome too.

All this being said, there are workarounds for some and the rest can just be dealt with, to me it's still worth having one light easy to carry device that does literally everything.

I've honestly spent the past few years trying to tell as many people and show as many people DEX as possible because I feel like if it's more widely used, Samsung will throw more money into development. With the new Snapdragon X Elite processors Qualcomm has been producing for Windows on ARM, I have high hopes. Or at least let me run fully fledged windows natively, that works too.
