Is there any downside to gaming and charging at the same time?

I got a 14 hour flight coming up and I've been emulating a lot of PS2 games. I notice that the phone gets warm when I push the graphics on some of the games or play for extended periods.
Is there any downside if I have the phone charging on the plane and game for hours at a time?
