Fingerprint sensor basically unusable, how can I fix this?

I've got a glass screen protector on and re-entered my thumbprints several times. I keep that part of the screen clean and no matter what, it takes like 4-5 tries to open with my thumbprints, so bad that I've just disabled it.
Any one have some suggestions on how to fix this?
