With the upcoming Fold 6 being basically the same phone, I wanted to try a different foldable. The only other option I can get officially is OnePlus Open (Pixel Fold not available in my country), so I gave it a shot. I wanted to try it for a week before deciding, but it's been 2 days and I'm already returning it. Here are some of my thoughts if anyone else is interested.
Pros: - Suuuuper solid hardware. It feels solid but light (coming from a Fold 3), the outer screen is nice and wide. It felt weird using it at first, but I got used to it by the second day. - I like the multitasking capabilities more, it seems more thought out. For example, you can do a 2 finger swipe down while in an app to go back home and select a second app for side view, which is more intuitive to me. - I took 5 pictures and I think they look good on the OnePlus. I'm no expert, so this is purely subjective.
Cons: - Android Auto didn't work. This was the dealbreaker for me. I would plug it into my car, the screen would pop up for a second, then it would crash. I've tried all the fixes I could find on Google and Reddit with no luck. - Having used to the One Handed Good Lock module, not having it really sucks. I tried using Edge Gestures, but it's unreliable at best. - Overall software quality needs improvement. When I transfered my data over using Google's implementation, the apps wouldn't download for whatever reason. I had to use both Google's restore and the OnePlus clone phone app to get things over. Also, sometimes network activity would just stop for a minute, and nothing would load.
I would have loved to keep the OnePlus for the form factor, but the software quality was just subpar compared to Samsung. As much as I hate it, I'm stuck on this bandwagon until other companies can get their software in check.
