Hi everyone,
So I'm hoping for some advice today. I'm a 27 year old male, I weight about 72 kg and I've led a fairly sedentary last 10 years or so. I gave up smoking back in 2018, and ever since then I've made efforts to get fit, but often stopped progressing after 3 months or so. I'm also asthmatic, and I find running really quite difficult.
I'm feeling pretty bad about what I'm doing in the gym, and I'm concerned as to why (i) I'm just so weak and (ii) why I few things happen to me when I go to the gym.
I've mostly been working on upper body, and I've been using the resistance machines as opposed to free weights to get me started. Here is the session I did today...
Seated Row, 32kg, 3 sets of 8, drop to finish
Chest Press, 3 Sets of 8, 41kg,
Bicep Curl, 6kgL 7kgR, 3 sets of 10 (100% effort on final rep)
Lat Pulldown, 32kg, 3 sets of 12
Overhead Press, 25kg, 2 sets of 25
Firstly, how terrible are these numbers for somebody starting out at the gym? I would also like to clarify that I try my best to produce slow, controlled motions and none of the fast sets that you sometimes see.
Also, when I finish every set, I feel momentarily dizzy for 5-10 seconds and it will often then dissipate. Does anybody else get this?
Feeling really upset about my progress today, and would really like to know if this is all normal!
Thanks everyone.
