He thought he and I were driving back to campus. Technically, we were. The route would take us there, with one small detour. Because I had convinced him that we should drive past the ocean.
He humored me, because he was my best friend. I tended to get what I wanted regardless, since I generally knew what I wanted and got it one way or another. It’s the tomboy way. Well, except for one thing that had been building for a long time.
I’d never been to the ocean. It wasn’t that far away, so maybe it was weird that my parents hadn’t brought me there. Actually, it was weird. We took vacations. Just never to the ocean. Thinking back, I wonder if somehow my parents knew once I saw the ocean, I’d never want to leave.
My previous script was mermaid related. It's fitting perhaps that my newest one is also related to mermaids. In one version of it, it was left vague if she actually was a mermaid, leaving a lot open to interpretation by the reader or performer.
