Summary:
They were friends in college and always played pinball in the student union between classes. Now years after that a business trip brings her back into town and into his life. This time, she’s not going to let him lose at the game so easily.
Teaser:
Thanks again for letting me stay at your place while I’m in town. I don’t know how you could afford to buy a place like this in this market.
Well, yes I do. You’ve got quite the job. Not that mine sucks either, and it does give me the chance to travel. And if it gives me the chance to travel to where my best friend from college lives, so much the better.
So I’ve seen part of this place The garage. The living room. The guest room, which is really nice by the way. But you said you had something special for me in the basement?
You know, coming from some other guy, that line would have been creepy. Kind of Fifty Shades of Gray, you know? But you? You just look embarrassed when you realize how some people might have read too much into what you said.
But come on. Show me the basement.
Oh my God. Look at that tv. I thought the one in the living room was big. And you’ve got a bar? We are so going to use that tonight.
Wait. Wait one fucking minute, dude. No way.
You have pinball machines?
And this one? Do you remember how many hours we spent playing this one between classes in the student union back in the day? Well, I spent playing. You mostly sucked, because you could never not tilt that thing.
Well, we’ve got time to kill, don’t we? And I see you have a bowl of quarters here next to the machines. Can we fire this thing up and relive our college days some more?
I played a fair amount of pinball and other video games in the student union during college. Sadly, I didn't have any tomboy friends back then. But this idea occurred to me tonight and I decided to run with it.
Not surprisingly perhaps, "Pinball Wizard" by The Who kept playing through my mind as I wrote this. Somehow 867-5309 by Tommy Tutone did as well, which is how I ended with the name of "Jenny" for a past character they both knew. That name, the title, tags, and the entire script can be changed if anyone should want to record this.
And as always, please feel free to comment. But please don't tag others in the comments. Talk about the script if you want, or pinball, or old music or college memories. Writing this script has gotten me thinking about all of those things.
Thanks for reading.
