Let's talk world-building, scene-setting and genre
Post Body

Lately I've found myself enjoying writing "genre" scripts. In the past weeks, I've written fantasy, sci-fi, horror, noir, and I might even find myself visiting westerns, if I can think of a good concept.

Of course, genre scripts involve a few "moving parts" that need to fit together correctly. Entirely through speaker dialogue (and maybe a few SFX cues), you need to:

  1. Establish the genre and setting.
  2. Explain who the characters are within that world.
  3. Describe their current relationship (or how they meet).
  4. Get to the "action," and why they're having intercourse.
  5. Actually write the sex.
  6. Write a post-coital denouement that retains the genre and setting.

So what is your method for handling the balance between setting and sex? Genre and gyrating? World-building and... Well, you get the picture. Are there any tips or tricks you've come up with? Rules you've established for yourself?

In a comment below, I'll post my own take on this.
