Evening all.
I'm currently writing a script which I'd love some feedback on - its about a sex addict falling off the wagon, and his GF trying to keep him. Now, that's all fine, but I've gone into detail about the reasons for his sex addiction, and they involve a past history of abuse when he was a child. I've tried to write it honestly, express it as backstory, but only in a few paragraphs so that it can be skipped over if its too much for someone to read - but I'm wondering, does that minimize it?
IRL, things can't be just skipped over, they're present throughout the entire experience, especially things like trauma and assault. Is it disingenuous to people who have actually suffered these abuses to not include them throughout the whole story, to make them have weight an impact, even if it does decrease the chances of this script even being performed?
Looking for some views here people, should I make it so the scenes and backstory can be cut out if need be, and just keep the sexiness level, or weave it throughout the whole story? Let me know what you think in the comments.
Edit: Thanks for all the advice, especially aethericallum & Courage_Soup - I've post the story, I tried to take everyone's advice, please give it a read and see if it's ok
