For example, something I realised after writing this script is how well the beginning shows the character going through the five stages of grief.
Denial: Pretending the listener is just asleep.
Bargaining: "I'll stop going on adventures. I'll stay in the castle and wear dresses. I'll sew tapestries and all the other boring princess stuff. Just PLEASE DON'T DIE!"
Anger: "I ORDER YOU NOT TO DIE!"
Depression: "extended sobbing"
Acceptance: Realizing that she can't do anything to help, and kisses him before it's too late.
Also, in this script starring grown up versions of The Powerpuff Girls, I feel it works well at establishing their characters because it both reinforces and subverts their basic character traits at different points.
Blossom is the leader. This is subverted by Buttercup continually arguing with her and ignoring what she has to say, but is reinforced at the end. When things are serious, Blossom can put her foot down and make the other two go save the day with minimal grumbling.
Bubbles is the sweet, seemingly innocent one. This is reinforced by her kissing beginning as little kisses rather than making out. Also defusing the tension of her sisters arguing by redirecting their wrath toward herself. But this is subverted by becoming very vocal and self derogatory when having sex.
Buttercup is the tomboy. This is reinforced by her seeming to lack an emotional connection to the protagonist, seeming to only being interested in sex, not even kissing him. But this is subverted at the end. When alone, she not only kisses him, but becomes the only one to state that she is actually in love with him, rather than simply having a crush.
So, does anyone else have any interesting things to share about their scripts? Or do I think about this sort of thing way too much?
