Hey man. How are you doing? You look good, all things considered. Is the arm giving you any trouble? I know they gave you some painkillers and antibiotics, and, um… the stuff to keep you from turning into a zombie so fast.

That was really stupid of you. But heroic. We had been trying to find this place for weeks, following the clues they’d left behind. The last big settlement of the living.

We were almost there too when some zombies caught us by surprise. This settlement tries to keep the surrounding area clear, but they just keep moving in. We were fighting them, and not doing too bad. We were in good shape before the plague. Being a tomboy is helpful during the apocalypse, apparently. Except my knife got stuck in one of their skulls, and then the next one pushed me over and was on top of me, and I was trying to keep him from biting into my neck. If I was lucky he would have bit through the jugular and I would have died quickly. If I was unlucky, I… well, let’s not talk about stuff like that.

Turns out, I didn’t have to worry about it. You grabbed the zombie and tried to pull him off of me, because somehow you’d lost your weapon too. But he was strong, and determined to make me a snack.

So you blocked his mouth with your forearm, and used that to leverage him off of me.

You had your leather jacket on to help protect you, but you’re lucky he didn’t take a big chunk out of your arm. He didn’t have to though. He was still able to bite through that and do more than break the skin. Then you threw him down and kept stomping his head until he stopped moving.

You didn’t try to hide that you’d been bitten though. I think you thought about it for a second. Not because you were scared for yourself. But because you knew I’d feel awful for knowing you were going to turn because of me.
