Hmm, you don’t look as happy as I’d expect when a beautiful artificial girl like me suddenly appears in your… well, this looks like a spaceship cabin on some military ship. You must have some rank to have your own cabin, although I never did understand how rank worked. And you look somehow familiar. Kind of like… wait.

You look like my brother, but older. Well, her brother, since I’m just a copy of her. But you can’t be him, because he just went to boot camp, and you’re obviously on a military spaceship of some kind, and much older, and-

Oh. I was able to access the system’s chronometer. It has been a while since they scanned her. That would explain a lot.

Look, I never thought you or anyone I knew would see this. Programs like this aren’t big on our backwater farm planet. We both know that. But speaking of farms, mom and dad are- well, were struggling with the farm. Not because you were gone. Most everything was mechanized, but it wasn’t cheap to keep up. So besides helping out on the farm, I was on the lookout for other ways to help out financially.

As it turned out, some people were looking for a girl just like me.

For quite some time I've tried writing variations around the theme of a holographic (although with physical form as well) recording of someone the listener knows and who is someone who for one reason or another the original version of them could or would never be with them. This is the version that I actually completed, but maybe I'll go back and revisit one of those other versions as well someday. I'm hoping this makes for an interesting story for some.
