Hey everyone! This post by u/Coolmel_VA has featured some really great discussion about The Writing Processâ„¢ and I wanted to continue that, but with a wider scope.
When you're writing (scripts for GWA specifically, of even just generally), what are the steps that make up your process? Do you even have steps, or do you just go for it?
I've only posted one script myself, but I have several WIPs in varying stages of completion, and I'm no stranger to sharing my writing online. For me personally, I have a doc for ideas, which consists of a bullet-point list with MAYBE a sentence or two about what I'm hoping to write.
From there, is one of the things on my list strike me in just the write way, I write an initial draft in pieces— I don't often get enough inspiration to just pound out an entire script. I'll often write a "scene"/a piece of a conversation, then "[MORE DIALOGUE IN HERE]"/"[MORE STUFF HAPPENS HERE]," and then a bit of what comes after it. Since this is often where I make the summary coherent to myself, I'll often draft the listener/speaker summaries during this step also.
I keep expanding those pieces of script until there's no space between them and everything flows together. This is when I'll do a final edit— read through the whole thing in my head (or if I'm alone, quietly aloud lol), make sure everything sounds good/that there's no weird wording/repetition/etc. I'll often keep it in my drafts for a couple more days just in case some other small bits of inspo strike me, and then I'll post it!
What about all of you?
