After some time away from high society, the rakish Lord Bennett finds himself at yet another of the Richardson's dull recitals. The only bright point of the evening will be rekindling his 'unique' relationship with the beguiling Eva, the bored only daughter of the family. But something has changed since they last met. Could it be true that Eva is no longer the woman she once was?

[M] So, you thought you’d invite me here to torture me or something, hmm? To tempt me... with... this dress and... everything? Only to show me how 'happy' you are with your new little life – your doting fiancé and your simpering little pet Captain by your side, giving you attention?

[F] I \am* happy, Lord Bennett. It's just that you can’t imagine a life that doesn't revolve around you and your... whims.*

[M] I don't seem to remember you having any problems with my particular desires before now. Quite the opposite in fact.

[F] Perhaps I’ve moved on from those things. Maybe, whilst you were away, I’ve realised how shallow it all was. You see, things are different now. You’re just going to have to accept the fact that I’m engaged to be married. And that means... just like the exquisite paintings lining the walls of this room, my Lord... you may look... but you cannot touch.

This is my 30th public script! 🥳🎉

I wanted to try my hand at a radio play style script, and this is what came out of it. It even has what might loosely be called a plot! It's a historical piece but not meant to be set in any specific era or place - I've kept the language fairly neutral so it could easily be anything from 1800-1930s. Also for that reason, any accents are fine!
