Good Evening GWA Backstage! I was quite moved over the weekend after having a modicum of hope restored in my fellow countrymen. And I just had to record something fitting.
A New Colossus By Emma Lazarus in 1883.
I've always loved this poem. Everyone in America was an immigrant at one point in time or another. To forget that is to willfully forget history. No one is truly native aside from the Native Americans.
A Nation's Strength By William Ralph Emerson (Cousin to Ralph Waldo Emerson) in 1891.
I actually found this poem looking for something suitable to read for this post and I really like how it's focus is on "people" making a nation great rather than some arbitrary focus on money, arms, or pride. Who know Ralph Waldo Emerson had a cousin! lol
I Look at the World By Langston Hughes (I couldn't find a date!)
I thought this would be fitting given the subject matter too. :)
