Thoughts on self-plagiarism in script writing?
Post Body

Hi backstage, I hope everyone is having as nice an evening as is possible in 2020.

I'm wondering what people's thoughts are, or whether there's an accepted convention, around reusing material in multiple scripts. Obviously there isn't the problem of actual plagiarism - it'd all be my original work - but I could see where it'd be disconcerting to read the same or very similar ideas in two different scripts.

I'm not talking about reusing a specific section over and over or anything - if nothing else, that would get boring in a hurry! Just if there's a sequence/idea I really like in one script, exploring it in a similar-but-different way in another.

For context - basically I've written much of a piece, and while I quite like it, I'm realizing it's going to end up being pretty long and unwieldy. I'll likely still finish it and post it - as I said, I rather like it - but I'm also thinking about taking a smaller section of it and rewriting it in a stand-alone context. I imagine some pieces would be the same verbatim, and some would be very similar but with grammatical differences, and the overall arch or thread would be the same, just with somewhat different context/framing.

Thoughts?
