How do I avoid cliches when writing scripts?
Post Body

Hey there (oh no the cliches start already),

I've recently took up script writing and have been lucky enough to get a few fills. I never really followed a guide on anything, just listened to lots of audios and decided to have a go. The feedback has been somewhat positive, which is encouraging, but I fear that I may have been using old tropes a bit too much.

For example, I know a lot of scripts start with 'Hey' or 'Hello', and admittedly my first two scripts start exactly like that. Now I'm very aware of this and try to avoid it as often as possible. This I can manage.

What I really struggle with is telling the story from the performer's mouth. As the listener is a mute protagonist, it's up to the performer to describe what is happening and progress the story forward. Sometimes the listener has a certain motivation or backstory that needs to be explained, and I have the performer re-iterating what the listener said.

I realise nobody says 'What do you mean such and such' or 'So you did such and such' in real-life conversations, and it gets old quite a bit after some scripts. I haven't found a way around it yet, any suggestions?

A final bit I'd like to ask is about sex scenes. I realise it can get quite repetitive and I try to write the dialouge in a way that's unique to the character. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
