AngelMain Answers the Writer's Questionnaire
Post Body

Hello folks! The world is going crazy lately, but I hope to finally start being a bit more active on the GWA community once again. I've always wanted to do a questionnaire thing one day, and since today marks 1 year since I created my GWA account, I think there's no better time for that!

Questionnaire by u/fro_yo, and thanks to u/RamblingKnight to make me realize this even existed xD.

1. Why do you write?

These philosophical, introspective questions are usually the hardest ones for me, but I'll try, hahaha. Well, finding out about GWA was rather enlightening for me, not only because of the audio format itself, but also because it was the first time I found out that there is sexual content out there that has character, story, and that has a more positive, wholesome and intimate feeling about.

I always had a bunch of stories in my head with a very similar feeling to them, but no media I felt comfortable sharing them with anyone before. I also didn't think anyone would be interested in the super specific kind of thing I enjoyed (I started out by writing D&D-themed porn, for Pelor's sake), but... some really nice people helped put enough confidence in me to start out, even though I didn't have any prior experience with writing and the English proficiency of a foreigner who was just learning the language properly. In the end, I'm really glad this happened, because damn, if I love this new hobby.

2. Do you have any rituals that you perform before or while you write? Favorite drink, favorite spot, etc.?

Rituals? Not exactly. But I have one thing called ADHD with an extreme high degree with hyperactivity, so I write in... quite the odd way. 99% of the time when I'm writing, I'm either doing something else at the same time, like playing a game, or literally walking around the house while I think about the next line. I wish I could explain how I make this insanity work, but I swear I don't know either!

3. Do you prefer to write scripts or stories?  Solo audios or collaborations?

I currently don't feel comfortable enough with the language and with writing in general to write narrated stories, so I definitely prefer scripts, but *spoiler alert* I might be working at some special, hybrid things to shorten the gap a bit. About solo audios or collabs, I don't really have a preference, but it's way harder for me to have an idea for a collab that I actually think has substance and is worth writing, compared to single-voice scripts.

4. How does "inspiration" strike you?  Do you make a plan before writing or develop the story as you go?

As it is to suspect after answer number 2, I am the "Chaotic Neutral Rogue with an edgy backstory" of writing. Inspiration strikes at completely random moments and with completely random things. I've written scripts that were inspired by songs, Youtube videos, shows, random conversations I had with people, D&D stories from 4chan and literally nothing at all. And the more I plan, the more I get stuck, usually, so I just let it happen.

5. What is your favorite piece of writing that you have done?

There's so much I love, but I think my eternal darling will always be the previously mentioned "inspired by a 4chan D&D story" script, A Matter of Life and Death. It's just so emotional, sweet, and the concept of two people who are supposed to be mortal enemies in every possible way but fall in love with each other is something I simply adore. If I ever turn one of my works into a book, it will definitely be this one.

6. What piece do you want to improve?

This is a tricky question for me because I'm one of the few people that has the patience and levels of OCD required to go back to every script I'm not fully satisfied with and make some changes. Or rewrite them, if said changes are too big. So... I think none, currently? That will definitely change in the future, though.

7. What are your favorite and least favorite challenges of writing for GWA?

My favorite part about this thing is definitely finding the weirdest themes I can possibly imagine, but still trying to make them into serious, developed and sweet stories. I won't say it works 100% of the time, but that's definitely my jam.

The least favorite challenge is definitely conciliating it with my other IRL activities. Oh yeah, and knowing how to use "in" vs "on". Why does English have to be so confusing sometimes? xD

8. Are there any writers that you try to emulate?

Emulate? No, not really. Honestly, I think I have a very particular style, in that I actively try to make my audio scripts sound the least like audios that is humanly possible. And by that I mean... I put the realism and flow of the dialogue way miles above description or even sexiness in the priority list. I go as far as cutting some sentences in the middle for the simple fact that people stumble over each other on conversations sometimes. It's not a trait I see very often here (and I don't think it's good or bad either, but it is my style).

One person that has definitely inspired and helped me a lot throughout this path, though, is u/LateStageInfernalism. Even if 90% of his stuff is too hardcore for me (which, admitedly, isn't very hard), he is an amazing writer and a super cool guy. Thank you, writer daddy, you're awesome!

9. Which piece of your own writing challenged you the most?

Different scripts are challenges in different ways, but if I am to name one, it's probably I Will Follow You Into The Dark. It is still sweet, but this one has the heaviest themes of any script I've written *by far*, and it was very difficult for me to get them right. I really loved the final result, though.

10. Do you find it easy or difficult to get into the mindset of a character different from yourself?

This has always been very easy for me, for two main reasons. The first, which you probably noticed by now, is that I've been playing Roleplaying Games... basically since I exist as a human being. It's always been something I love, and getting into a character is a big part of what makes it fun for me. The second is just that I've always been very empathetic about fictional characters in general. I've cried watching anime way more than I'd like to admit.

11. Do you have a friend proofread or "beta" your writing before you record/post a script offer?

Not one specific person, but I have a couple of writer buddies that always help me with proofreading, and that's *definitely* a gigantic help. Thank you guys, you're all awesome too! :)

12. Do you tend to favor writing for one gender or writing one genre?  Would you like to branch out or are you comfortable where you are?

Even though a lot of people know me for Monster Girl stuff, and that is a considerable part of my work, I've written and I like writing for a variety of settings and themes. The one thing that all my scripts have in common, though, is that they're all very sweet and wholesome. 90% of them are romantic in some way and the other 10% that isn't still is comforting, consensual and all those other fluffy things? If I'll branch out to other themes? Certainly. If I'll branch out of the wholesome? I'll let this answer for me.

13. Have you tried writing a kink that was not your own?  How do you think it turned out?

No, and I'm pretty sure that I never will. I wish I had a better way to explain this one, but I simply have a very specific list of things I like, and if I try to write something that's not in this list, I don't have fun with it, so I don't do it. I know this is a boring answer, I'm sorry.

14. Do you write for anything other than GWA or anything like it (Recordings, Pillowtalk Audio, etc.)?

I've written a couple of things for PTA, and I have an attempt of a short story that I think I might manage to finish close to 2071.

15. Do you prefer to record your writing or to have someone else record it?

I currently only post script offers, and with my voice, super strong accent and incredible skills at sexual things, I don't think this is very likely to change.

16. For those who've offered scripts: how did you feel the first time your writing was recorded by someone?

I still get super happy every time I get a fill to this day, but the first time, I think I came very close to exploding out of excitement, hahaha. And then I listened to the audio, and it was such a weird but amazing experience at the same time, seeing your words and your story being incorporated on someone else. I know this is starting to sound like a speech at the Oscars, but I must say a big thanks to u/MistressIrene for filling my first script and being super supportive of me. She's definitely part of the reason I'm still here today.

17. Would you say that you're proud of your writing? Do you feel like you have talent?  Feel free to praise yourself; I'm all about self-love (and a hint of vanity!)

I'm not sure if I'm very qualified to rate my own talent, but I can definitely say I'm proud of how far I've come as a writer, especially in such a short period of time. I'll probably never take writing as anything other than a hobby, but it is a hobby I thoroughly enjoy and want to always improve at.

18. Any advice that you'd like to share?

My piece of advice is definitely: if you feel like a thing you want to write isn't gonna be appreciated by anyone but yourself, give it a try anyways. You never know what might happen, and even if your idea sounds absurd even to you, a lot of people might resonate with it.
