The tragedy of the Butterfly Lovers is as well known as Romeo & Juliet in Chinese literature, music, folklore, drama, tv & movies. It inspired generations of poets, lovers and dreamers. It's also one of the most important cultural icons among Chinese gays, and probably the trans as well. The melody of the concerto was adopted into a Cantonese TV drama as the theme song in the 70s. It was a solo by a male vocalist but I think it should be sung as a duet.
