As the year draws to a close and everybody is going to New Years Eve parties, I thought it would be fitting to showcase perhaps the most ubiquitous appetizer around. A little retro, a little cliché, but there's a reason it has endured through the years.

A coupe glass filled with chopped baby gem lettuce, julienned cucumber, sliced avocado, and juicy jumbo shrimp are hung off the rim. A cocktail sauce made from ketchup, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, a drop of brandy, and a hum of horseradish is drizzled over the top
