Post Body

About 3/4 through typing up a script on my laptop and my big fingers hit some random combination of keystrokes. So that hour or so of writing/typing/whatever we want to call it was undone because I was sent somewhere into browser limbo and ended up on a New Paste with no way to get back to the paste I was working on.

So what can we learn from this, True Believers? We learn the most important lesson there is to learn about any kind of writing: "SAVE EARLY AND OFTEN."

If I had saved and done so frequently, I would have only lost a little bit of my work. I have also learned to use a word processor when working on my laptop (faptop?) and that I should probably disable my trackpad and some key combinations while I am writing.

I kept having to reset my cursor and to undo some typing because I would hit the trackpad which would bump the cursor up to some random place in the document. Let my careless mistake(s) be a lesson to you, True Believers. Don't let this happen to you. It is so frustrating to lose that much work and it is so much easier than you think it is to lose hours of work when you get wrapped up in what you are doing.

Even people who do this for a living and have done so for quite a while fall into this trap. One thing about going from a word processing such as MSWord into a service like Pastebin is that you might have to fiddle with the formatting a bit but that is so much easier than having to retyping everything that you worked on. I have abandoned some projects just because I didn't want to rehash what I had lost. I hope you appreciate this little cautionary tale.
