Post Body

Dear all,

I’ve decided not so long ago to start with my own recordings. Not knowing exactly what would work or not for me, I tried different things. I tried a script, that had been posted. It received a rather correct feedback through comments, even though I was not that happy. Ok, I kept going… I took another script, that I found as well somewhere. This time, I told myself that I had to do better than the previous one. I recorded it, and by doing so, had a blast playing with my voice. I then edited it… It took me a while to edit it correctly. Add some special effects, to better immerse the listener… This time, it got almost no reviews, and against others, all my audios hit very poorly.

So I suppose I’m doing something wrong. I tried working on me, finding out why it so was. I think I got it. I am not an English native, and have a very strong French accent, which makes it hard. Against native US or UK, I don’t stand a little chance. Their English will always be better. I tried audio in my language, but those score even lower than the scripts. So doing full scripts in my own language is also not an option to please your ears.

I basically have two ideas left, before being discouraged by the lack of feedback, especially when compared to others (some score over 2000 hits under 2 hours after publication, while I score in the 100 under the 48 hours, and then remain flat). One is under works : I’ve contacted a writer, and proposed an idea, a concept, which the writer acknowledge and agreed to create that script. This would make it a script tailored to my accent, and might be better for me. The second idea is to write my own scripts myself, but this might not be a good idea. Being not native, there will be mistakes, and might be even worse than taking others scripts.

I comment on almost any audio I see and listen to, but yeah… Their audio is doing fine… I also spend hours searching for scripts, and I found a few (one of them I posted recently), but I didn’t even heard the author (yes, the author is still active). Maybe there is a big script subreddit, I don’t know… Maybe you could help me out ? I use the search for now, but usually, it gives me wrong results (typing for a M4F Script-Offer gives me more Script-Fill than anything else.) Or I could be using the search totally wrong.

Yeah, I’ve strong mixed feelings, being torn between the will to keep posting, and investing a lot of effort into editing, and doing things that use a lot of time, for little result (I don’t expect to skyrocket, but I was expecting being average amongst the other posters).

Well, should you have any ideas about what I can do to improve (how to improve if I don’t get comment telling me what to improve… I had more comments when I started, and it was all positive… The more I post, the less I get)… So, any idea is welcome !

Thank you all for reading and trying to help

Take care,

LP
