Since it's January, the month in which we celebrate the work of Scottish poet Robert Burns, I thought I'd sing a traditional Scottish song called The Skye Boat Song for this month's open mic karaoke challenge. Anyone who watches Outlander will recognise the tune but perhaps not the lyrics. The lyrics of the Outlander version were written by Robert Louis Stevenson, but the version I'm singing is the more traditional version. It's a song about a man called Bonnie Prince Charlie who was sailing to the isle of Skye to evade capture (hence the name of the song) after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden. I've known it since childhood because my grandfather used to sing it to me and my siblings when we were infants, so I sang it a cappella, just as he used to for us. 😊 Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks! And glad to help you learn something too 😁
Thanks! I always make sure I go, it's always a highlight of the year for me. Hope you manage next year.
