I really wanted to do a poem for Valentine's Day. All this red for the holiday had me thinking... I have not read this short story since high school! It was exciting reading it again.
spoilers: Chilled me then and now, and I appreciate the ominous build up of the black clock tolling to the inevitable breach of the plague in this story, when all the fat cats think they're safe inside their wealthy walls from it. Oof, it's a dark story literally and metaphorically, and you can picture the colors of the rooms and the grotesque mask so well. Hope you enjoy the reading!
